GAMREN extends WACREN's Persistent Identifier (PID) services to support researchers, librarians, repository managers, and university leadership in ensuring long-term access to scholarly and digital resources. Through this service, GAMREN offers Archival Resource Keys (ARKs) and Digital Object Identifiers (DOIs) to uniquely identify, reliably reference, and permanently link research outputs produced by institutions in The Gambia.
ARKs and DOIs help researchers ensure that their publications, datasets, theses, reports, and digital collections remain findable, citable, and accessible over time, even when websites or systems change. For libraries and repository managers, these identifiers support digital preservation, metadata management, and interoperability with global research platforms. For university decision makers, PID services strengthen institutional research visibility, credibility, and alignment with international best practices in open science and scholarly communication.
By offering trusted PID services, GAMREN enables its member institutions to integrate seamlessly into the global research ecosystem enhancing research impact, supporting collaboration, and safeguarding the long-term value of Gambian scholarly and digital outputs.
